Even though Yasusada was still a capable sword, he never had another owner after Okita died, which is why he says that it is important for his owner to have longevity, because good owners who could release his true value are very hard to come by. However, he could only watch as the illness drained the strength from Okita, who could no longer wield the sword. Unlike Kashuu who was abandoned previously due to being damaged beyond repair, Yasusada stayed with Okita till the last. Okita later resided at Edo until the illness killed him at age 25.
